Cricket Hong Kong (CHK) selectors today have announced the squad chosen for the 2018 Unimoni Asia Cup to be held in Dubai from 15th-29th September. Anshuman Rath will lead the team following on from an excellent qualifying tournament win over UAE in Malaysia. The tournament will see the same 15 players retained with Raag Kapur and Tanveer Ahmed adding a bit more class to a squad that is already full of confidence after their efforts whilst qualifying.

Hong Kong have been drawn in the same three team group as Pakistan and India. The fixtures on the 16th v Pakistan and 18th v India promise to be memorable occasions for a squad that has shown a great deal of character after some tough results in the World Cup Qualifiers in March.

CHK Chairman of Selectors Tabarak Dar is pleased with the make-up of the squad and delighted with the performance of the squad in qualifying for Dubai.

“The team showed a great deal of character in coming back from an opening round defeat to Malaysia. The resilience in the group was clear to see and it was fantastic to see the squad perform well under pressure”.

The opportunity to play the likes of Pakistan and India does not come around very often and this is a memorable occasion for the players, support staff and everyone who is involved with Hong Kong Cricket”.

“Hong Kong possesses some very talented performers within the squad with the likes of Anshuman Rath, Babar Hayat and Nizakat Khan having particular success across some of the global T20 leagues. Nadeem Ahmed will also be hoping to follow up on his 4 wickets against Pakistan in the corresponding fixture in 2008”.

“The gap is closing among associate teams and test teams.Scotland’s victory against the number one ranked England team earlier in the summer shows that upsets can happen and Hong Kong will take heart from their victory over Afghanistan in the World Cup Qualifiers in Bulawayo in March 2018”.
