Cricket Hong Kong Women’s Development League Review

Sunday 20th May

It was another extremely hot day at Po Kong Village Road Reservoir for the 3 round of fixtures in the CHK Women’s Development league.

The morning round of fixtures saw CCC v HKCC and League leaders SCC Divas v USRC.

Game 1– CCC 91 beat HKCC 89 by 2 runs.

CCC batted first and were quickly into their stride. They were however pegged back by some excellent fielding from HKCC, especially by 12-year-old debutant Georgina Bradley, who successfully ran out Andra Au. This meant CCC finished on 91 from their 16 overs.

Unfortunately for HKCC the fielding of CCC was also very good and no HKCC batter managed to get going. Backed up by some tight bowling from Dorothea Chan and Cynthia Lee, HKCC fell just short by 2 runs.

Game 2– SCC Divas 169 beat USRC 128 by 41 runs.

SCC Divas won the toss and again backed their hard-hitting batters to put a score on the board. L. Algonez (36 off 14 balls) and J. Arimas (24 off 8 balls) were the main contributors to SCC Divas big total of 169.

In reply USRC never gave up on the chase and 47 from R. Maheshwari did give them a glimmer of hope, but the SCC Divas stood strong and made it 4 wins from 4, winning by 41 runs.

After the lunch break, the afternoon fixtures saw USRC play HKCC and the two winning teams from the morning games, SCC Diva’s and CCC went head to head.

Game 3 – USRC 138 beat HKCC 62

HKCC won the toss and asked USRC to bat. Opening batter V. Bhargava got USRC off to a flying start with a boundary filled 35. Good support from S. Jain 24 and S. Gill 29 meant USRC scored a very competitive 138 from 16 overs.

HKCC lost 3 quick wickets in reply and struggled to get back into the match. USRC brought on to bowl JS Polana (3-1-2-3), this meant there was no way back for HKCC. HKCC finishing on 62 from their 16 overs.

Game 4– SCC Divas 126 beat CCC 109

SCC Diva’s look as though they have found a winning formula with their batting. Winning the toss and batting first, Z. Badajos wasted no time at all hitting 24 from 13 deliveries. With the score again looking like it would pass 150, CCC’s fielding got them back into the game. V. Wong firstly with a good catch followed by some quick thinking to get a run out. This slowed up the scoring rate and SCC Divas finished with 126.

CCC got off to a solid start from opener Cynthia Lee (15) and then Dorothea Chan (16) kept the score board ticking along. Virginia Wong capped off a good all-round performance with 21 not out off 12 balls. With 24 needed of the last over SCC Divas were possibly facing their first defeat. A good over bowled by J. Arimas saw just 7 runs scored and Diva’s undefeated record stay intact.

Another great days of cricket by all players involved. A special thankyou to the Women’s National Squad players, Alison Sui, Rajvir Kaur, Maryam Bibi and Emma Lai for standing and umpiring throughout the day.
