HK Domestic cricket preview - 8th and 9th September 2018

Domestic Cricket Preview – 8th/9th September

After a damp start to the season – consistent rain forcing all games on the opening weekend to be called off. We look forward to sunnier skies and plenty of cricket this weekend.

Here’s what you can expect:

The second Under-11 HKCC Derby of the season takes place at HKCC on Saturday at 9:30 AM – the Hawks taking on the all-girls Rebels in a Pool 3 match up. Both teams are evenly matched based on last year’s encounters, and this will be a great way for these eager youngsters to get their season underway.

The U17 T20 League continues with 2 more fixtures, both on Saturday at 9:30 AM – PACC facing USRC at Gin Drinkers Bayand KCC facing DLSW Tigers at Mission Road. This will be KCC’s first game of the season, while the other three teams will be looking to get their seasons started after their first games were all rained out. Weather permitting, PACC and USRC U17s will also have the honor of being the first scheduled league game at GDB to take place – a historical moment for the Hong Kong Cricket community.

The Women’s T20 Cup gets underway on Sunday 9th September – CCC Fung Wong taking on HKCC Willow Wielders at 8:20 AM, followed by USRC Women facing KCC Maidens at 11:20 AM, and ending with the SCC Divas facing HKCC Cavaliers at 3 PM. With 6 teams sharing points from last Sunday’s washout, this Sunday provides an opportunity for teams to separate themselves from the pack, while CCC Fung Wong will be playing their first game of the season and looking to show off the improvements made over the summer.

This weekend is a packed schedule for the senior men’s leagues, with 5 Saturday League and 3 Sunday League games scheduled.

Saturday League:

In Division 1 of the Saturday League, the KCC Crusaders play host to CCC Jing Sun at KCC (1pm). The two teams finished 5thand 4th, respectively, which means an exciting game between two evenly matched sides await us. Meanwhile, over at Mission Road, the newly promoted Lamma CC get a second crack at making their Div 1 debut against KCC Saracens (12:50pm). Having secured their first points of the season, Lamma CC will fancy their chances against the young KCC side, while the Saracens will look to bounce back strong from their final game last season – a loss to Div 2 HKU CC in the Semi-Finals of the Saturday League KO Cup.

HKU CC get their season in Division 2 underway against CCC Hung See at Gin Drinkers Bay. CCC Hung See came close to securing their first win over HKU CC last season, missing out by just 21 runs, but HKU CC would go on to make the finals of the Saturday League KO Cup, ending their season on a strong note. They will look to continue that rich vein of form while Hung See will be looking to achieve what they couldn’t last year. Also in Division 2, newly relegated HKCC Witherers make their debut by playing host to CHK Pioneers (HKCC 1pm). The Pioneers are likely to feature several players taking part in the East Asia Cup later this month, and will be looking to spring a surprise over the Witherers, who will be looking to establish a run back to Division 1 at the first attempt. Over at PKVR Park (12:35 PM) last season’s mid-table finishers Laguna Gully and Kai Tak CC get their seasons underway. When they met up last season Kai Tak secured a 5 wicket win in a low-scoring game, chasing down 120 with just under 5 overs to spare. Laguna Gully will be looking to avenge this loss at the same ground where it occurred.

Sunday League:

In the Sunday League, we have our first Division 1 game of the season, as last season’s 2nd and 3rd place finishers face off at HKCC (10am). PACC Elite just narrowly missed out on the championship last season, so will be hungry to go one better, while the HKCC Scorpions will want to start with a win on their home turf to start the season.

Over at Division 2, the Vagabonds are scheduled to be in action again, this time against last season’s runners up HKCC Optimists at Mission Road (9:20am). The SLCC Tritons and KCC Infidels get their seasons underway too, at KCC (10am). This set of fixtures will go a long way to determining how the a very competitive 2nd Division pans out, and there is bound to be some great cricket on display.
