Premier League 2 Day Final Kowloon Cricket Club v Pakistan Association Cricket Club 14-15th April 2018 – Match played at The Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground

Day 1 Report:

Close of play Day 1 - KCC – 136 and 5/0 Trail PACC 149 by 8 Runs.

Pakistan Association Cricket Club captain Tanwir Afzal won the toss and elected to field first looking to take advantage of some early movement with favorable bowling conditions.

The captain led from the front in reducing KCC to 31-3 inside the first 6 overs. Stiller was bowled for 10, Atkinson was caught behind for 4 and Singh departed first ball to leave KCC with plenty of work to do. Carter and Ninad Shah led the KCC fight back with an enterprising stand of 51 before Shah departed for 16 caught by Hamed off the bowling of Gurjit Singh and Carter, top scoring with 43 then departed next ball caught by Ishtiaq leaving KCC floundering at 86-5. The PACC attack were galvanized by those quick wickets and through the introduction of talisman Yasim Murtaza, KCC struggled to make any headway against some disciplined left arm orthodox bowling. Murtaza finished with 4-17 supporting an excellent spell by the Captain Afzal who finished with 3-30 and KCC stuttered towards a first innings total of 136.

The PACC innings much like the KCC innings struggled against a disciplined opening burst by the KCC seamers. Hasan struck 3 quick blows in reducing PACC to 25-3. A 32 run partnership between Anas Khan and Afzal was interrupted when Khan misjudged the line from KCC Leg spinner Barkat and with that KCC sensed an opportunity to expose the middle-lower order. Afzal mixed resolute defense with some excellent use of the feet against the spinners and moved effortlessly to 34 before being the 5th wicket to fall under-edging a short wide delivery form Suhaib Ahmed (73-5) Ahmed continued to lead the KCC attack and in removing Arif for 10, Yasim for 21, Manjinder for 12 and Shafi for 0, PACC found themselves at 120-9 still needing 17 runs to pass KCC’s first innings. Gurjit Singh took charge of the situation and through some clean striking the deficit was trimmed down and then surpassed giving PACC a first innings lead. Gurjit was the last man out for an excellent 32 consisting of 4 x 6s and with that PACC took a 13 run lead going into the 3rd innings of the game. Suhaib finished with excellent figures of 5-28 and Hasan 3-17.

KCC Openers Stiller and Sharma had a tricky 10-15 minutes to bat and at the close of play KCC made their way to 5/0 still trailing by 8 runs. Day 2 promises to be another enthralling day’s cricket with KCC knowing that they need to get in front of PACC and win outright in order to win this 2 Day final. A draw will see a PACC victory and both teams arrive at the ground tomorrow with all to play for.
