Women’s Development League Review – Week 5

Going into the final day of the season the SCC Divas were looking to preserve their unbeaten record having already been crowned champions for this season prior to Sundays matches. The morning fixtures saw SCC Divas taking on USRC whilst CCC played HKCC.

SCC Divas batting first for the eighth game in a row, came out in aggressive fashion. All batters were quickly into their stride finding the boundaries with ease. E Mendez and J Alumbro (24 each), and L Algonez (20) were the main contributors to the total of 144/4 off their 16 overs.
USRC stuck to the task of trying to chase the total down but found it difficult and lost regular wickets. Some excellent bowling from J Arimas (4-0-11-4) meant that USRC were always behind the run rate. S Jain (24) and V Bhargava (20) tried to push the scoring on but to no avail. USRC finishing on 93/8.
SCC Divas won by 51 runs.

HKCC won the toss and elected to field in the other morning game. Ashley Hung (3-0-14-1) and Aneka Ogden (3-2-12-2) made sure that CCC did not get off to a flying start.  CCC did eventually get the scoreboard moving thanks to Virginia Wong (20) and Blue Chan (16), to help post a competitive total of 76.
HKCC also started slowly but it was the extras bowled by CCC that kept them in touch with the total. With the last pair at the crease HKCC found themselves needing just 5 runs from 2 balls. Pocdas (22) managed a single, leaving Ashley Hung needing to hit a boundary from the last ball. Sadly for HKCC Hung managed just the one run and HKCC finished 2 runs short on 74 for 5.
CCC won by 2 runs.

In the afternoon fixtures USRC played HKCC and SCC played CCC.

USRC matched up to anything that HKCC could throw at them and ran out clear winners. USRC won by 30 runs (scorecard unavailable)

All eyes turned to SCC v CCC. The Divas who had batted first in every game so far lost the toss. Luckily for them they were asked to bat first, to their captain’s amazement.
With confidence sky high, the batters went out and played with freedom. It was again the devastating pair of Jenny Alumbro and Josie Arimas that stood out. Alumbro smashing 27 runs off 11 balls and Arimas 21 runs off 9 balls. CCC found it tough going in the field and SCC Divas posted 141/2 from their 16 overs.
It was going to be a tall order for CCC to chase down 141 and straight away found themselves behind the rate. Two runouts followed by some very tight bowling meant CCC could only manage 37/8 at the end of 16 overs.
It was Josie Arimas that once again stood out for SCC Divas. She had match figures of 3-2-4-1.
SCC Divas won by 104 runs and were crowned CHK Women’s Development League Champions.

Congratulations to all teams, players, coaches and officials that have been part of a very successful 2017/2018 Women’s Development League.
