HK Domestic Cricket Preview – 25th and 26th November 2017

23 November 2017

Saturday Championship

Division 2 of the Saturday Championship sees Laguna Gully take on Kai Tak CC. This looms as a crucial game for both teams who have only one win between them from their first 4 matches, a loss would make it difficult to push for a spot in the top 5 come the end of the first round. The second match in division 2 is the KCC Tartars vs the Taipan-Sky Warriors, the boys from Kowloon are undefeated so far this season but will take on a team who registered their first win last weekend and come into the fixture chock full of confidence.

The Hong Kong Cricket Club plays host to the HKCC Witherers and Pakistan Association. Both teams are 3-1 and will look to consolidate their position in the top 5. Pakistan Association started the season with a bang and after losing to the Nomads last week with be looking to right the ship this weekend.

Sunday Elite

This weekend will see three fixtures in the Sunday Elite competition, in Division 2 the CHK Dragons take on the KCC Infidels at Mission Road and the HKCC Optimists are at home to the SLCC Tritons. So far this season no team has taken the division by the scruff of the neck and as a result it remains wide open in the fight for promotion. The Dragons welcome back CHK’s own Mark Farmer for the fixture and will be looking to upset the Kowloon Cricket Club Infidels in a match they would expect to win. “We are looking forward to enjoying the company of the boys and hopefully registering our second win of the season” Farmer said.

It what has been a disappointing start to the season the Optimists will enjoy being back on home soil and a win is the only thing on the agenda for captain, Elliot Andrews. “We’ve had some close losses to opposition we would have liked to have beaten this season, with the race for promotion still open we’re looking to put some good results on the board and push towards the title in the back end of the season.”

In division 1, the KCC Templars clash for the first time this season against the Pakistan Association Cricket Club. History suggests the Templars should win with ease, but some shrewd recruiting in the off season by PACC has them poised to challenge for the title this season. Captain of the Templars, Ashely Caddy is not counting his chickens after the loss of some National Squad players, “We have a couple missing with them being on national duty but a great opportunity for some of the younger members of the squad to do well. We all know how strong PACC are this year with their off-season signings so our lads will not be taking them lightly”. Former National Men’s Captain Tanwir Afzal had this to say, “Our team combinations were not really good as we had a few new additions to our team but I believe we have a good team now and the result will show that on Sunday. I won’t be part of the team (as I’m in Dubia preparing for the WCL) this Sunday and team will be led by Yasim Murtaza and we know Templars are a good side and we have to play well to beat them on Sunday.”

Women’s League

There are two matches being played on Sunday at PKVR Reservoir in the women’s 35 over competition. The KCC Maidens take on the HKCC Willow Wielders in match 1, still very early days in this competition but with both teams missing a few of their big guns through National duty this match should give a great indication of which club has the most depth. In match 2, CCC Fung Wong clash with DLSW Wasps.
