The first ever CHK Women's T10 Cup concluded this past Sunday, with the DLSW Wasps, KCC Maidens, HKCC Cavaliers and CCC Fung Wong all taking part in the Finals Day at PKVR Reservoir Ground. After two hard fought semi-finals, it was the KCC Maidens and CCC Fung Wong that made it to the final, the Maidens ultimately emerging victorious by just 5 runs.

The first Semi-Final was between the unbeaten DLSW Wasps and 4th-placed KCC Maidens. Maheen Haider called correctly at the toss, and chose to send the Wasps in to bat first. The Wasps managed to keep a decent pace throughout the innings, but two tight overs from veteran Keenu Gill (1/7), and two big wickets -those of Shanzeen Shahzad and Maryam Bibi- for youngster Roisin O'Connor (2/10) helped keep the table-toppers to 70/6 in their 10 overs. In response, the Maidens got off to a decent start, before losing Jen Davies in the 4th over - the score reading 28/1 at the end of it. Connie Wong joined Keenu Gill at the crease, and together the experienced duo added 38 runs in just 26 balls - Keenu hitting 3 fours and a massive six in the process. Connie was dismissed at the end of the 8 overs, but with 66 runs already on the board, the damage was done. The Maidens cruised home with 8 wickets and 8 balls to spare.

In the second semi-final, the Cavaliers also elected to field first after winning the toss. They had success right away - Alison Siu dismissing Annie Ho for a duck in the first over. However, Pull To and Kary Chan took command of the innings from there on in, mixing big hitting with quick running, and put the fielding side under regular pressure. Pull To finished unbeaten on 47 off just 32, and Kary Chan was dismissed in the 9th over for 25 off 20, as Fung Wong finished their 10 overs on 89/3. The Cavaliers chase got off to a poor start, with both openers dismissed in the first two overs, and despite some resistance from Alison Siu (14) and Amanda Cheung (25*), they never looked in the chase, finishing their 10 overs on 55/6. Kary Chan nabbed 2 wickets for just 8 runs in her 2 overs, while Pull To took 1/10 and secured a runout in the field as well.

Two impressive performances from two impressive looking teams meant we were set for an exciting final, and the match did not disappoint. Kary Chan called correctly at the toss, and continued the trend of electing to bowl first. She then struck an early blow for her side, dismissing Jen Davies clean bowled first ball of the second over - KCC 10/1. This brought Connie Wong out to join Keenu Gill, and once again the veteran pair set about rebuilding the innings. Keenu scored 30 off 28 with 4 boundaries, while Connie scored 29 not-out off 30 deliveries, with one boundary and one towering six straight down the ground. Together they put on 56 runs in 46 balls, forming the backbone of the Maiden's final score of 76/3. Kary Chan was the pick of the bowlers for CCC yet again, with 2/14 in her 2 overs.

In response, Fung Wong lost an opener in the second innings of their chase as well - Annie Ho runout thanks to some sharp work from Tinaz Karbhari. Kary and Pull To continued their fine form too, and kept the chase on track, matching the pair of Gill and Wong shot for shot throughout their partnership. After 7 overs, Fung Wong were 56/1, needing just 21 runs in the final 3 overs. But that's when KCC struck - Rida Haider getting Kary Chan to hit one into the safe hands of Connie Wong at long-off. The CCC skipper out for 21 from 13, and Maidens now back in the game. Pull To soldiered on - hitting a boundary right after the fall of the wicket - but she lacked support from the other end. With 14 needed in two overs, it was Keenu Gill who came on bowl the penultimate over, and she managed to swing the game back in her side's favour. She concdeded only 3 runs while taking a wicket, which meant Fung Wong now needed 11 to win in the final over. Skipper Maheen Haider took it on herself to deliver the finishing touches, beating the bat first ball, and picking up a wicket on the third. With 6 needed to win off the last ball, Maheen beat the bat yet again, securing a 5-run win for her side in the first ever Women's T10 Cup! Pull To finished not out at the non-strikers end, with 39 off 34 balls with 4 boundaries.
