After three months of a heavy off season fitness program, Hong Kong captain Babar Hayat says he can notice a significant difference at the UK training camp in Kent.

With the sun shining in record-breaking temperatures in Canterbury, Babar said the team was relishing the chance to get training volume under the belt.

“We’ve been training hard here – from 8 in the morning to 5 in the afternoon on all areas of our game,” Babar said.

“The facilities are so good here –It’s helped me with my batting. To be able to bat for such long periods it’s building up my confidence.”

The guys in the nets are focusing on batting long periods staying at the crease without giving their wicket away.”

Babar, who took over the captaincy from Tanwir Afzal ahead of this tour, said their was a noticeable lift in energy from previous tours despite the long training hours.

“Everyone is still looking fresh – the fitness levels are high now and it’s shows up here – bowlers are bowling for hours and doing laps afterwards, which is a great sign.”

“There is a great feeling building in the team as well, we all go out for dinner together afterwards and we are really excited for next week.

Hong Kong have two more full days of training before traveling up to Northern Ireland for a couple of day’s lighter preparation before the first game.

The four day encounter against Ireland will be streamed live.
