Domestic Cricket Preview - 20th and 21st October 2018

With the West Pacific Cup and South China Cup just around the corner, this coming weekend’s games are set to be the last bit of cricket for most teams until early November. Here’s what to look forward to over these couple of days:

Juniors

The U11 League continues with three games at PKVR Reservoir. At 8 AM we have two evenly-matched Pool 3 games. DBS Red (4th) come up against DLSW Littles (5th), while the KCC Hornets (8th) play DLSW Kangaroos (6th). Then at 11 AM the KCC Wasps play India Club Blue in what should be an exciting Pool 1 game – the Wasps having just registered their first win, while IC Blue will be playing just their second game of the season. Also, the KCC Honey Bees (7th in Pool 3) pay a visit to HKCC to play their Warriors (ranked 3rd) at 9:30 AM.

On Saturday afternoon the KCC Buccaneers will play the Lantau Lions in a U-13 Elite Division 15-over game at PKVR Reservoir. Both sides have had a tough start to their seasons and will be looking to turn things around this weekend. Then on Sunday we have a pair of Premier Division T20s at KGV, At Pitch 1 the DLSW Cheetahs will be looking to bounce back from their rough loss last Sunday when they play USRC, who are coming off a win at KGV and a narrow loss at DB last week. On Pitch 2, PACC will look to pick up their second win of the season when they play LMC, who are still searching for their first. Then at 4 PM we have one Elite Division game – the HKCC Optimists (ranked 3rd) playing India Club Green (ranked 2nd). This should be an exciting game.

The Women’s team are in action again, playing DLSW Tigers U15 this Saturday 9:30 AM at Mission Road. The Tigers have had a mixed season so far, while the Women narrowly edged out the Optimists in their last game. Both sides need a win here to stay in contention for the top spot. Meanwhile at KCC the two teams currently at the top of the Premier Division face off – both PACC and KCC Typhoons are 2 for 2 going into this game. Which side will emerge 3 for 3? Then on Sunday we have two Elite Division T20s – at GDB 9:30 AM DBS Sky play HKCC Witherers, and then at 1:30 PM at KCC, the Cyclones play host to LMC. All these sides sit near the middle of the table and will look for wins to create some distance between them and the rest of the sides.

Women’s

The 35-over Women’s League starts this Sunday with two games at PKVR Reservoir. At 8 AM CCC Fung Wong will look to carry their fine T20 Cup form into their opening fixture against SCC Divas, who will be playing their first over Women’s League game. Then at 1 PM, defending champions HKCC Willow Wielders will look to start strong against the talented DLSW Wasps, who will be aiming to improve on their last season’s record of 4 wins and 4 losses from 8 games.

Men’s

Four games are scheduled for this Saturday, with two from each division. Starting at PKVR Park, Centaurs will be looking to make it to wins on the trot against the DLSW Spartans, who have had two rough losses in a row, and will be looking for their first win of the season. At Mission Road Kai Take will be looking to see if their batting can be as effective as it is at GDB when they come against the still-unbeaten HKCC Witherers. The Witherers were impressive in their last outing at this ground and will look to repeat the same.

In Division 1 the KCC Saracens visit HKCC again, this time to play the Gap Ramblers. It’s been a tough start for the Saracens while the Ramblers are yet to lose a game. Does the young KCC side have it in them to pull off an upset and get into the win’s column, or will the Rambles make it 3 wins on the trot? The Saracens will not be the only Division 1 side looking for their first win tomorrow, as CCC Jing Sun take on PACC over at GDB. With four sides -including these two- currently sitting on 2 points each, every win is crucial, and tomorrow is a big opportunity for these two talented sides.

And with PNG set to land in HK soon, HK’s best talents are scheduled to take the field on Sunday with two Division 1 Elite League games lined up. At Mission Road, PACC takes on the recently promoted USRC/MCC Championship. Both sides have 1 loss and 1 abandoned game this season so far and so will be battling to make it out of the relegation zone. At HKCC the Wanderers face DLSW JKN. JKN had a rough weekend a couple of weeks ago, dropping two close games in a row, and will look to bounce back strongly now that most of their National Squad representatives will be available. The Wanderers have yet to lose a game and will look to keep it that way with a win on home turf.
