Domestic Cricket Preview - 22nd/23rd September

20日 09月

The damage caused by Typhoon Mangkhut has meant Gin Drinkers Bay and Mission Road are not available for this weekend. However, all our other grounds have more-or-less survived, which means there is still plenty of cricket to be played:

Juniors

The U-11 season is in full swing starting this weekend, with 5 games scheduled! At PKVR Reservoir, India Club Blue play DLSW Tigers at 8 AM for the first Pool 1 game of the season, and then at 9:30 Am the KCC Bees face Lantau Buffaloes. Then at 11 we have a KCC derby – KCC Hornets playing the newly formed KCC Honey Bees – and alongside that the HKCC Hawks play their third game of the season against the DB Smashers Red. Over at HKCC, we have the last of the Pool 3 intra-HKCC matches, when the Rebels face the Warriors.

The U-13s also have a lot of cricket in store for them. On Saturday at PKVR Reservoir (12:50 PM) the LMC U-13s will look to bounce back from their loss last weekend when they play the DLSW Cheetahs, who will look to their start their own season strongly. Two more Premier Division games take place on Sunday at KGV – PACC face the HKCC Scorpions, and last season’s champions KCC Crusaders face USRC. Both these games get underway at 1:10 PM and are followed by two Elite Division games at 4 PM. India Club Green look to continue their successful start when they face KCC Buccaneers, while the DLSW Littles look to bounce back from their loss when they come against the HKCC Optimists. Both the Buccaneers and the Optimists will be playing their first games of the season.

Womens

The Women’s T20 Cup continues this Sunday at PKVR Reservoir. At 8:20 AM, CCC Fung Wong face the KCC Maidens – both teams are unbeaten so far, CCC with 1 win and 1 abandoned game, and KCC with 1 win and 2 abandoned games. This fixture will mark a first loss for one of these two sides. Following this, the two rival HKCC teams face off – the Willow Wielders taking on the Cavaliers at 11:20 AM. The Cavs are unbeaten too (1 win and 2 abandoned games) and top the table on NRR, whilst the Willow Wielders sit at the bottom and are looking for their first win. This should be a competitive match-up between two talented sides. To wrap up the day the SCC Divas get a crack at the DLSW Wasps. The Wasps are yet to get on the field, with both their games abandoned so far, while the Divas will be looking for that elusive first win. The T20 Cup has suffered quite a bit from the recent poor weather, so let’s hope for a sunny Sunday so that we can finally see some cricket being played.

Mens

There are two games in each Division of the Saturday League scheduled to take place this weekend.

In Division 2, CCC Hung See face the CHK Pioneers in their annual Ellis Achong Cup match. The two Chinese-only teams bring out the best in each other, and as is tradition the match will be held at the Police Training College. A big day in the Chinese cricket calendar and definitely a game to keep your eyes on.

Also in Division 2 are HKU CC – fresh off a win at the historic GDB game against CCC Hung See – travelling to HKCC to play the Witherers – who themselves come off a thumping victory over CHK Pioneers. The Witherers enter this game as favourites over last season’s mid-table finishers, but they would be wary about taking this young side lightly – as evident by their run to the finals of the Saturday Championship Knockout Cup last season.

In Division 1, the KCC Saracens will look to get past their Vachha Shield loss last weekend to overcome an impressive looking DLSW Sarjan outfit over at PKVR Park. The last time the Saracens played at PKVR Park was in the semi-finals of the aforementioned Saturday Championship Knockout Cup, where a weakened side were beaten comfortably by HKU CC. They’ll be looking to make amends for that performance this time around, while Sarjan will look to climb to the top of the table with another win.

Meanwhile, Lamma CC will face the Vachha Shield winners, the KCC Crusaders, at KCC. Lamma will be hoping to actually make their long-awaited Division 1 debut this time, after their first two games of the season were washed out, while the Crusaders will look to stay unbeaten with another big win on their home turf.

There is only one Sunday Elite league game taking place this weekend – on Sunday at HKCC, the Scorpions will look to make it 2 in 2 against DLSW JKN, who will be looking to play their first game after their match against PACC was called off. It’s rare for a Division 1 game to be played from only one end, but those are to constraints placed upon us as a result of Mangkhut, and it will be interesting to see how this game unfolds.
