Premier League 2-Day

The Grand Final of the Premier League 2-Day Competition between PACC and KCC took place this past weekend at Mission Road, with PACC successfully defending their championship. Their second win in a row came in comprehensive manner – Tanwir Afzal (21-8-58-8), Ehsan Nawaz (25-6-83-8), Daniyal Bukhari (90*) and Yasim Murtaza (76 and 12-5-52-1) taking them to an innings and 39-run victory. Sunday Elite

The HKCC Derby went right down to the wire on Sunday, with the Scorpions emerging victorious over the Wanderers by 4 wickets in the 49th over. Electing to bowl first, the Scorpions bowled out the Wanderers for an even 200 inside the 50 overs. Luke Jones batted well for 79 (90 balls, 7 fours, 4 sixes) and there were contributions from Stuart Tohill (34) and Elliot Scrivener (23). Tom Ingram was the pick of the bowlers with 3/41, and there were tight spells from all the spinners, who returned combined figures of 4/97 from 29.2 overs. The Scorpions lost a few early wickets in the chase, after which Rory Caines steadied the innings with 46. Adil Mehmood (3/52), Tohill (1/24) and Scrivener (2/21) kept taking regular wickets, and when they picked up the 6th wicket of the innings the Scorpions needed another 42 runs in the remaining 35 balls. Enter Tom Ingram, who hammered 32 off just 17 deliveries (3 fours, 2 sixes), and helped see the Scorpions home with plenty of time to spare.

Saturday Championship

Over at KCC in Division 1, the USRC/MCC Championship side retained their unbeaten streak with a 49-run victory over the Tartars. Rameez Raja hit 59 (76 balls, 3 fours, 2 six) and Awais Mohammed Senior 34 off 26 balls (2 fours, 2 sixes) as they were bowled out for 147 with one ball to spare. Najeeb Amar (3/14), Chandan Gill (3/36) and Ghulam Iqbal (2/21) starred with the ball, but USRC had enough. Muhammad Imran (4/12) and Shan Sarwar (4/39) tore through the Tartar’s batting, and a brief cameo from Amar (28 off 16 balls, 1 four, 3 sixes) was the highlight as the home side were shot out for just 98 in exactly 22 overs. USRC securing a big win that sees them take 2nd place on the table.

Meanwhile at HKCC, Lamma CC were unable to pick up a much-needed victory, losing by 5 wickets to the hosts. Sent in to bat first, they were bowled out for 124, with a highest individual score of 23. New ball bowlers Atif Fayyaz (2/17) and Hassan Khan (2/31) took 4 wickets in the first 5 overs, after which the rest of the attack, lead by Christopher White (3/29), bowled them out inside 30. The Nomads got off to the worst possible start in the chase – Akbar Khan (2/29) and Nikhil Gupte (3/47) reducing them to 9/4 in 4 overs. But Andrew Swan’s counter-attacking 78* (57 balls, 13 fours, 2 sixes) lead the Nomads to victory in the 23rd over for the loss of just 1 more wicket. Their 5th win of the season, they now sit 4th on the table.

In Division 2, the DLSW Spartans got their season back on track with a victory over Laguna Gully at PKVR Park. A quick 56* from Lovepreet Singh (52 balls, 9 fours), and contributions from Noman Ahmed (33), Mehran Zeb (39) and Ursalan Abdul (20 off 12) took the Spartans to 191/8 in their 35 overs. Pranav Shah added two more wickets to his season’s tally, and there were good spells from Ramakrishna Saranga (7-2-13-2) and Ankit Shah (7-0-37-3), but 198 would prove to be sufficient. Laguna could only manage 158/7 in their 35 overs – HK U19 spinner Mohammad Hassan returning the remarkable figures of 7-2-7-1 for the Spartans, as they registered their 3rd win of the season.

And over at GDB, we had another high scoring performance – the SCC Lancers taking advantage of the friendly conditions to pile on 388/5 in their 35 overs against the CHK Pioneers. Soma Nair set the tone with 93 off 58 balls (13 fours, 4 sixes) at the top of the innings, and Asif Ismail (98* off 44, 15 fours, 1 six) and Uday Shetty (84 off 34, 8 fours, 6 sixes) finished strong, with 155 runs from just 58 balls for the 5th wicket. The Pioneers posted up 113 in the chase, but it was to be a comfortable win for the Lancers – Roopesh Patade taking 5/22, all bowled, as the Lancers continued to press their case for promotion.

Junior’s

Under-17

In the 35-Over League Premier Division, the DLSW Tigers made it 3 out of 3 with a comfortable victory over USRC at GDB. Jagraj Singh (42) and Ursalan Abdul (46) held the Tigers to 198 a/o after electing to bat first, and the bowlers combined to keep USRC Premier to just 151/7 in their 35. Nauman Ali hit 51* for USRC, but tight spells from Dhananjay Rao (7-0-25-2) and Mohammad Hassan (7-1-19-3) secured the Tigers a spot in the finals.

And on Sunday morning the HKCC Nomads paid a visit to KCC for a T20 Premier Division clash, and were greeted by a splendid century from Kalhan Challu. His 112 came off just 74 balls, and consisted of a whopping 20 boundaries and a single six. He took KCC to 203/3 in their 20 overs, a score that would prove to be too much for the Nomads to overhaul. Wickets were shared as the hosts bowled them out for just 95, with Malhaar Vora (3/18) and Hamid Jawaid (2/20) being the pick of the attack.

Under-13

In the Premier Division on Saturday, USRC picked up a 12-run victory over the HKCC Scorpions in a hard-fought clash at PKVR Reservoir. Soban Muhammad’s 37 (19 balls, 5 fours, 2 sixes) was the cornerstone of USRC’s total of 111/9, with Ahvann Thakur’s 3/16 being the pick of the Scorpions’ bowling. Rohaab Umer (3/8) and Parwinder Singh (3/18 and 2 runouts) then combined to bowl out the Scorpions inside 18 overs for 99, securing a narrow victory for USRC and taking them to third in the table in the process.

Then on Sunday at KCC, the KCC Crusaders played host to LMC, and picked up yet another impressive victory. 53* from Abdul Samad (57 balls, 7 fours) laid the platform for the Crusaders’ score of 136, after which Ollie Shale and Shubhan Tilve combined to take 5/11 in 6 overs to help keep LMC to just 51/7 in their 20 overs. The Crusaders continue to reign at the top of the table, and are one step closer to securing a spot in the Semi-finals.

And meanwhile at Discovery Bay the DB Smashers White got back to winning ways with a 93-run victory over the DLSW Cheetahs. Malhar Pendse (43 off 62, 5 fours, 1 six), Avaneesh Vankamaddi (55 off 39, 5 fours, 4 sixes) and Aryan Chandiramani (27* off 15, 4 fours, 1 six) took the DB Smashers to 163/3 in their 20 overs, after which Chandiramani (3/12) and Justin Moutinho (3/3) helped bowl out the Cheetahs for just 70. Chandiramani also took 3 catches, capping off a fine all-round performance, as DBS picked up their 5th win of the season.

In the Elite Division, India Club Green picked up their 11th win in 12 games by beating the KCC Buccaneers at KCC by 12 runs. In a game shorted to 13 overs a side, they put up 91 runs with 2 batsmen retiring and 3 getting run-out. At 11 overs in the chase, the Buccaneers were level with India Club at 67, but while India Club were able to score 24 off the last two overs, the Buccaneers could only manage 12, giving India Club yet another win.

And at KGV, the HKCC Optimists pulled off an excellent chase to secure their 4th win of the season. They sent the DLSW Littles in to bat first, and a quick 24 from Jash Patel took the Littles to 103/4 in their 15 overs. However, Zain Amjad hit an excellent 48* (42 balls, 7 fours) in the chase, taking his side to victory in the final over with just 2 balls to spare.

Under-11 Championship

It was a busy weekend for the U11s, with 6 games at PKVR Reservoir and one at HKCC. The first Pool 1 game of the morning at PKVR was a DLSW Derby, with the Cheetahs emerging victorious over the Tigers. The Tigers opted to bat first, and got a strong start from openers Iqbal Qasim (21) and Taranvir Chail (20), which helped them eventually post up 90/5 in their 14 overs. Qasim then took a wicket and a runout in the chase, but it wasn’t enough – Stavya Italia (19), Arham Sheth (21) and Mangukiya Preet (11) all hammering their side to victory. Dev Goyani followed up 2 wickets in the first innings for the Cheetahs with two boundaries to help seal the game.

The KCC Wasps then put in an excellent showing in their Pool 1 game against the HKCC Cobras. Electing to bowl first, they kept the Cobras to 74/3, and proceeded to chase it down inside 7 overs for the loss of no wickets. Khris Butani the star for the Wasps, bowling two tight overs and hammering 20 in the chase to take his side home.

The HKCC Sharks then resumed where they left off in the Under-11 League with another emphatic victory, beating India Club Blue by 7 wickets in the final Pool 1 game of the day. Opting to bat first, India Club managed 80/2 in their 14 overs, mainly thanks to 20 from Harishanker Venkatesh. However, James Gearing (23 retired), Will Jenkin (13 retired) and Maxi Clayton (13 not out) made short work of this target, chasing it down inside 9 overs.

In Pool 2, the Dragons pulled off a victory over the Warriors at HKCC. The Warriors elected to bowl first in this HKCC Derby, and managed to bowl the Dragons out, but not before they put 114 up on the board. Cooper Glanville was exceptional, scoring 29 off just 11 balls with 2 fours and 3 sixes, while Henry McAuliffe and Thomas Rees took two wickets each. 114 would prove to be enough, as the Warriors were only able to score 95 off their 14 overs.

And at Reservoir, the Hawks pulled of a nailbiting 3 run victory over the KCC Bees. Batting first, the Hawks didn’t lose a single wicket in their 14 overs, and instead retired their top order on their way to 112 – James Walker top scoring with 22. In reply the Bees kept on top of the asking rate, but kept losing wickets. They entered the final over needing 12 to win, and a boundary fourth ball brought it down to 6 off two. But they couldn’t get over the line, and the Hawks secured a tight 3 run victory.

This was followed by another close game - India Club Orange picked up a tight 8 run victory over the newly promoted HKCC Rebels. India Club were sent in to bat first, and Kovidh Melwani scored 31 runs in two appearances at the crease to take them to a 118 in their 14 overs. He hit 5 fours and a six in 22 deliveries, and remained undismissed after coming in to bat in the first over. Georgina Bradley went one better in the chase, hitting 32 off just 13 balls (6 fours and 1 six) and remaining undismissed as well. The Rebels started the final over needing 33 runs for an unlikely victory, and a series of wides, no balls and boundaries got them extremely close. 25 runs came from it, but India Club held their nerve to secure the win.

And in Pool 3 the KCC Hornets picked up a comfortable victory over the newcomers HKCC Eagles. The Eagles managed to put up 94 after being sent in to bat first, but struggled to defend it – the Hornets getting over the line for the loss of just one wicket with nearly 3 overs to spare.
