Incessant rain on Wednesday afternoon meant that two out of three Sat League games scheduled were called off. However, the third was a cracker - a KCC derby that ended in a tight D/L finish. Both the Crusaders and Tartars were coming off wins, and it was the Crusaders who won the toss and chose to bat first at KCC. Their innings was built around Matt Stiller’s 82 (87 balls, 11 fours), and after two early wickets he built partnerships with Ashley Caddy (87) and Gurjinder Singh (38) to lay the platform. The Tartars finished the innings strong, taking the last 5 wickets for 54 runs, but the Crusaders were still able to post a challenging 198/9 in their 35 overs. 2 wickets each for Ghulam Iqbal, Chandand Gill and Ateeq Iqbal. Shortly after the completion of the innings it began to rain, and the skies darkened. When the teams came back on, it became a game of staying on top of the D/L par score. Peter Wooden and John Davidson were effective with the new ball, taking 3 wickets inside the first 6 overs to make the Tartars task difficult, but when Sunny Bhimsaria hit six off the final ball of the 10th over, the Tartars had just edged ahead. Play continued for 2 more overs though, and the Crusaders had just edged ahead when the umpires deemed it too dark to continue playing. The Tartars were 74/3 after 12 overs and were deemed to have lost by just 2 runs. A disappointing conclusion to a great game, and the Crusaders maintain their position on top of the table.
