An outstanding performance from 2018-19 Women’s T20 Cup champions CCC Fung Wong saw them start their season with a big victory over the HKCC Cavaliers this past Sunday. The Cavaliers elected to bat first, but rain right after the toss lead to delayed start and a reduction in overs to 16 overs a side. However, Fung Wong only needed 12 overs to bowl out the Cavaliers, the hosts all out for only 60. Kary Chan lead from the front, with the remarkable figures of 5/6 in 3 overs, including a hat-trick in her third over – the first of the season! Fung Wong made short work of the target, and despite losing three wickets, got over the line with 5 overs to spare. This entire game was streamed on our Facebook and YouTube pages, so if you missed it live, be sure to check out the replay!
Meanwhile at KCC, the Maidens made it two out of two with an impressive run-chase against the Wasps. Batting first, the Wasps scored 106/6 in their 20 overs, with former Hong Kong Women’s skipper Connie Wong -making her return to HK league cricket after nearly a decade- taking 3/27 in her 4 overs. Mehreen Yousaf top scored with 35 opening the batting, and Shanzeen Shahzad hit 29 off 27 to take her side past the 100 mark. However, Keenu Gill and Jen Davies were excellent in the chase, putting on an 88-run opening partnership to lay the platform for a comfortable 8-wicket victory with 7 balls to spare. Three Saturday games took place this last weekend, with HKCC and KCC recording big victories, while DLSW SkyWarriors played out a close match against Borrelli Walsh Centaurs at GDB. At HKCC, the Nomads kicked off their season with a comprehensive 86-run win over PACC Championship. After electing to bat first, they put up 189/8 in their 35 overs, thanks to 60 from Sachin Suresh and 20 penalty runs due to PACC being 4 overs behind the overrate. In response, Rawaid Etesham hit 53, but lacked support at the other end, as his side were bowled for just 103 in 24.3 overs. Spinner Ian Massey was the wrecker-in-chief, taking 6/30 in his 7 overs.
Over at KCC, the Crusaders won the annual Vachha Shield fixture in emphatic fashion, beating the Saracens by 98 runs. Rory Cox hit 132 as the Crusaders piled on 236/3 after electing to bat first. The Saracens were reduced to 43/6 inside the first 10 overs of the chase, and could only muster 138/7 in reply. A good win for the Crusaders, bouncing back from their loss to the SCC Lancers last week.
And finally, at GDB, the Centaurs and the SkyWarriors started off their season with an exciting close-fought game. The ageless Nasir Hameed scored another half century, his 64 being the backbone for a final score of 172 all out – the next highest individual score being 14. The Centaurs received 10 penalty runs due to the SkyWarriors slow overrate, and the match was briefly suspended due to rain. However, when play resumed, the SkyWarriors found themselves with a rain adjusted target of…172 in 32 overs. The vagaries of DLS and a top order collapse put the SkyWarriors on the backfoot – 61/6 in 15 overs – before Urslan Abdul and Simit Parikh recovered the innings, with Simit eventually taking the SkyWarriors over the line with just 8 balls and 2 wickets to spare.

And the KCC Buccaneers U13 picked up a handy 52 run win over the HKCC Wanders U13.
