PACC were crowned champions of the CHK Premier League T20 competition this past Sunday, after a 1-wicket victory in a thriller at KCC! The final group stage game lived up to the hype, with a match filled with twists and turns, that was ultimately decided by the finest of margins! And at HKCC, the hosts ended their season on a strong note, bowling out USRC for just 67, before romping home with plenty of time to spare. This weekend also saw the first hattrick and the first five-wicket haul of the 2019-20 Premier League competitions, in an exciting finish that capped off an excellent month of cricket.

In Division 1, PACC Championship secured their first victory of the season, beating USRC Championship by 5 wickets. Electing to bat first, USRC were bowled out for just 125, with new recruit Mohammad Azam scoring 63 of those runs on his own. PACC got off to a rapid start in the chase, taking 36 off the first 4 overs, before stumbling to 50/3. However Nusrullah Rana (69*) and Wajib Shafi (22) stabilized the chase, and despite losing a couple more wickets they were able to get over the line with just under 14 overs to spare. And at HKCC, the Gap Ramblers picked up a big win over CCC Jing Sun. Electing to bat first, the Ramblers found themselves at 5/2 in the 3rd over. But HKCC's Captain of Cricket David Varley (53) rebuilt the innings, forming steady partnerships with Tarleton Hepburn and Hamish Dickie. Some big hitting by Stuart Tohill and Satyendra Singh lifted the Ramblers to 195/9 in their 35 overs. In response, Jing Sun struggled, losing two wickets in the first four overs, and found themselves at 48/7 in the 26th. Ravi Mulchandani and George Gladstone lifted them up past 100, but the side were bowled out for 106 with an over to spare. Young offspinner Raunaq Kapur took 4/10 in his 7 overs.
In Division 2, the SCC Lancers picked up their second consecutive win, beating CCC Hung See by 214 runs. Batting first at GDB, they piled on 330/8 in their 35 overs, with quick fifties from Uday Shetty (67*) and Tanmay Bijur (50) being the highlight. Hung See settled in for a bit of batting practice in response, scoring 116/3 in their 35 overs - wicketkeeper Huan Jun Jie ending on 40*. And at KCC, the Saracens bounced back from a bad defeat last weekend to inflict one of their own, beating HKU CC by 72 runs. Viren Prasad (78) and Richard Waite (65) both hit quick fifties as the Saracens piled on a massive 249/5 in their 35 overs. HKU CC's top order collapsed in response, and once again they found themselves at 60/6. Once again, it was up to wicket-keeper Ramesh Weerakoon to recover the innings, as he narrowly missed out on his second consecutive fifty - hitting 49 off 52 balls. Young offspinner Ahan Trivedi took 3 wickets for just 13 runs in his 7 overs, as HKU CC ended on 177/9, giving the Saracens their first win of the season.

Under-15 T20 League

In the U15 T20 League, the USRC Gunners picked up their first win, beating DB Smashers Gold in a low-scorer at Mission Road. Malhar Pendse was exceptional on a day dominate by bowlers, scoring 32 out of a combined total of 125 runs. A pair of 14s by Ashar Khalil and Soban Mohammad, along with 17 extras, was sufficient to guide the Gunners to victory with just 4 wickets and 8 balls to spare. Then on Sunday, the KCC Typhoons U15 picked up a good victory over hosts HKCC Optimistis U15. Jayden Botfield hit 38, as the visitors scored 119/5 in their 20 overs. This would prove to be sufficient, as Ahan Trivedi picked up 3/11 to help bowl out the hosts for just 82. Meanwhile at Mission Road, the DLSW Tigers U15 picked up their first win, handing PACC U15s their first defeat in the process. Newcomer K Mudassar hit 32* as PCC managed 82/8 in their 20 overs. But a quick 43 run opening partnership by Daksh Mangukiya and Ansh Doshi, followed by 21* from Jaiveer Sandhawalia, was enough to take the Tigers over the line with plenty of time to spare. In the Elite Division, the Lantau Lions U15 had to forfeit their game to the HKCC Witherers, while LMC U15 registered a thumping 117 run win over the KCC Cyclones U15 - Zarrar Khan the start for LMC, hitting 52* and taking 3/3.

Under-13 League

Over at KGV, the U13 Premier Division T20s produced a couple of low scorers. Ishaan Sharma of APCC Green took 3/13 to bowl out PACC U13 for just 57, and then proceeded to hit 24* in the chase. Meanwhile, Ahaan Sekhri took 3/5 for the HKCC Scorpions U13, as they bowled out the DLSW Cheetahs U13 for 61, after which Shiv Mathur hit a quick 31 not out to win the game. The HKCC Scorpions U13 now sit on top of the table, with 2 wins in 2 games. In the Elite Division, LMC U13 picked up a narrow 13 runs win over last season's U13 Elite champions DLSW Tigers U13. Aarez Dar hit 29 and bowled economically, but it wasn't enough to get his side the victory. And at the same time, the CHK Dragons U13 side played their first ever game. A product of the newly formed CHK Dragons academy, they came up against the Lantau Oxes, who were able to pull off a comprehensive victory. Nevertheless, it's a promising step forward for Hong Kong cricket, as we attempt to grow the sport into new communities.

Challenge League

Sunday 22nd Sept – Division 2 – USRC HKICC vs Charlie Bears – GDB – 02:30 PM

And in the Challenge League, the Charlie Bears kicked their season off with a comprehensive win in Division 2. Chris Evan's 44 steered them to 176/6 in their 20 overs, after which Sahin Dhali reduced USRC HKICC to 22/3 with the new ball. Alam Saiful -who had earlier scored 30- took 4 wickets for just 5 runs to wrap the innings up.
