Hong Kong’s 4th match of the tournament saw them come up against Oman, on an initially warm sunny morning at Kinrara Oval. The equation still remained simple for Hong Kong; win the next two games in order to guarantee a spot in the final. Anshuman Rath won the toss and elected to bowl first on a wicket that was tacky after being under covers all night.
Hong Kong’s pace bowlers got off to a brilliant start in the opening power play. Ehsan Nawaz dismissed Oman’s centurion from their previous match, Aqib Ilyas, at the end of the 3rd over, and later picked up his second after Nizakat Khan took a sharp catch at cover to dismiss Jatindeer Singh for 11. Wickets continued to fall at regular intervals until the 26th over, when with the score at 7/75 Oman’s tail began to wag. Mohammed Nadeem and Fayeez Butt combined for a partnership of 94, saving them from what looked like an innings total of under 100. Nadeem was bowled for 54, and Butt was run out by a Rath/McKechnie combination for 50, bringing the innings to a close on 183 - a score that looked well below par on a very good batting track.
Hong Kong’s openers Carter and Rath headed out under sunny skies to commence their chase of Oman’s total. Both got off to a good start and pushed the score to 25/0 in the 5th, before the rain began to fall. At first it was light, but then it became biblical, with a heavy storm lingering over the ground for two hours. The heavy rain halted just after 4pm, but unfortunately it was adjudged that the game would be abandoned due to insufficient time to get the ground ready for recommencement.
Points were split, but the equation doesn’t change for Hong Kong. They need to win the next game from Nepal to get through to the final.
