The International Cricket Council last week launched the ICC Women’s T20I Team Rankings continuing to drive the growth of the women’s game with emphasis on the T20 format. This follows the decision earlier this year to award international status to all T20 matches between ICC Member countries and the new rankings system will help teams gauge where they stand in the T20 format globally.
Hong Kong are placed 21st in the first ranking while regional rivals Thailand and China are played 12th and 25th respectively.
"The announcement of the recent international status is a great step towards developing the game globally. Not only does it allow all member nations to view where they are ranked currently in the world, but it also enables us to create goals based on where we would like to be in a years time. Although there still needs to be equal opportunities for associate members to play as many games as the international teams, I do see Hong Kong climbing seven places to be ranked in the Top 15."said Hong Kong captain Mariko Hill.
Richard Waite Hong Kong Women’s coach declared, "It is great that the ICC have gone down the route of the separating the Women’s World Rankings. This is another positive step for Women’s cricket and promoting the game globally. As every nation now has T20i status, it means that every fixture has an incentive to help you progress up the rankings."
