Hong Kong (58 all out) Lost to Nepal (94-5) by 36 runs.
Hong Kong Captain Mariko Hill won the toss and elected to field against a Nepal team who like Hong Kong had shown some inconsistent form throughout the tournament.
Hill led from the front with the ball in dismissing both Nepalese openers with only 7 on the board. Srestha and Thapa set out to re-build the innings with their 3rd wicket partnership of 30 ending courtesy of an excellent catch by Poon off Lamplough. Lamplough struck again in dismissing Kanoujiya leaving Nepal on 41-4 with 8 overs remaining. Thapa continued to anchor the Nepal innings and feasted on some mediocre latter order bowling to make her way to 38 before being dismissed by Sau Ha (72-5). Bhandari and Belbashi took Nepal through to 94-5 off their allotted 20 overs with Lamplough (2-11) and Hill (2-22) the pick of the Hong Kong bowlers.
The Nepalese opening bowlers stifled the Hong Kong opening pair of Davies and Shahzad inside the first 6 overs. Shahzad was first to fall with the score on 11 shortly followed by her opening partner Davies leaving Hong Kong up against it on 15-2 after 6 overs. Hill whom much is expected as captain and premier batter in the Team was adjudged LBW sweeping Bhandari and with that the Hong Kong chase fizzled out before it even got going. One after another the Hong Kong batters came and went struggling to come to terms with the disciplined Nepalese Spinners on a wicket getting slower and lower as the overs passed. Kary Chan (11) and Sau Ha (13) at least offered some positive intent but Hong Kong were all out for 58 off the penultimate ball of the innings with Nepal deserved winners by a margin of 36 runs.
For Hong Kong there is an element of frustration and disappointment in losing their last 3 matches with mistakes continually being made in the same fashion leading to a 4th place finish.
Head Coach Richard Waite commented “To end the tour with another defeat was a bitter pill to swallow. The players gave their all through the tournament but we just didn’t put that complete performance together. We bowled with good discipline and that was back up by some excellent fielding, It was our batting that once again let us down”.
