Sunday Championship ─ Match Report (20th March 2016)

Sunday, 20th March 2016 Sunday Championship

HKCC Scorpions swamped the HKCA Dragons in a very one-sided affair at Hong Kong Cricket Club.

Dragons won the toss and opted to bowl first. Unfortunately, their bowlers could not make use of the misty conditions and Scorpions made them suffer. The Scorpions’ opening pairing of Rory Caines and David Varley put on 127 runs for the first wicket with Varley contributing 51. Caines went on to top-score with 155 not out while James Redmayne hit an unbeaten 115 as Scorpions amassed 2/359 from their 50 overs.

Raag Kapur struck early and often in the Dragons’ reply as he decimated their top order to finish with figures of 5/13 from seven overs. Brenton MacDonald cleaned up the tail-enders, finishing with figures of 4/8, as Dragons were dispatched for just 64.

At HKCC: HKCC Scorpions 3/359 from 49 overs beat HKCA Dragons 64 from 24.5 overs by 295 runs.

It was an equally one-sided affair at Kowloon Cricket Club where KCC Infidels blitzed HKCC Optimists.

KCC Infidels won the toss and elected to bowl first. Their opening bowlers of Tanveer Ahmed and Gurjant Singh destroyed the Optimists’ batting line up, grabbing three wickets before a run had been scored. From 0/3, things didn’t get much better for the visitors as their batsmen offered no defense against the Infidels’ attack. No less than seven batsmen were dismissed for ducks as Optimists were routed for 48 inside 19 overs - David Jacquier (29) the only Optimist to score more than 2. For Infidels, Tanveer Ahmed finished with 5/11 while Gurjant Singh grabbed 4/28.

The KCC Infidels needed only five overs to knock off the runs and the game was wrapped up well before the scheduled lunch break.

At KCC: HKCC Optimists 48 from 18.4 overs lost to KCC Infidels 0/49 from five overs by ten wickets.

Another one-sided match took place at Mission Road where Pakistan Association thrashed USRC/MCC.

The PACC batsmen made merry after being sent in to bat with seven of their top eight batsmen scoring 20 or more runs in a total of 8/330 from 48 overs. Best on the day was Zain Islam with 78 while Ishtiaq Mohammad scored 71. Other useful knocks came from Saqib Khan who hit 40 and Butt Hussain who finished on 30 not out.

In the second innings, Gurlal Singh grabbed all five wickets as half the USRC/MCC batting line-up was dismissed with just 51 runs on the board. Some rear-guard hitting by Mohammad Awais (35) saved a few USRC/MCC blushes but they still weren’t able to crack three figures. Gurlal Singh finished with 5/45 from eight overs.

At Mission Road: PACC 8/330 from 48 overs beat USRC/MCC 99 from 23.1 overs by 231 runs.
