HKCC Optimists scored a bonus point after beating DLSWCC Knights 73 runs at Hong Kong Cricket Club.
Optimists batted first after winning the toss and their openers put on 58 runs for the first wicket with Sam O’Malley hitting 36. Both openers fell with the score on 58 and Optimists were quickly reduced to 4/70. Tej Sheopuri (35) and James Dhillon then shared an 81-run partnership for the fifth to lift Optimists to 5/151. Dhillon continued on to reach 103 while Steve Pitt hit 38 not out as Optimists finished on 9/271. Safaraz Khan was the pick of the bowlers for DLSWCC Knights with figures of 3/51 from nine overs.
The DLSWCC Knights reply got off to a poor start with both openers dismissed with only 19 runs on the board. Partnerships were fleeting as Knights slipped to 4/66 with Elliot Andrews grabbing 3/34. A 61-run stand between Ibraheem Muhammad (45) and Niaz Ali (65) for the fifth wicket proved the best on day for the Knights and they were all out for 198. Ryan Rollason mopped up the Knights’ tail, claiming figures of 3/12 from 3.4 overs.
At HKCC: HKCC Optimists 9/271 from 50 overs beat DLSWCC Knights 198 from 46.4 overs by 73 runs.
Over at Mission Road, DLSWCC JKN claimed their second HKCC scalp in as many weeks as they thumped HKCC Wanderers by 198 runs.
Wanderers dominated the early exchanges as DLSWCC JKN were reduced to 5/35 with Angus Robson picking up 4/13 in a devastating opening burst. However, from then on, it was all JKN as Anas Khan (115*) and Shahid Wasif (189*) smashed 317 runs in an unbroken sixth wicket partnership that lifted DLSWCC JKN to an impressive 5/352 from their 50 overs.
In reply, the Wanderers’ batsmen failed to put together any substantial partnerships and Craig Johnstone’s 55 was their best effort in a total of 154. For DLSWCC JKN, Ehsan Khan grabbed 3/43 while Harpreet Singh claimed 4/19.
At Mission Road: DLSWCC JKN 5/352 from 50 overs beat HKCC Wanderers 154 from 37.3 overs by 198 runs.
At PKVR Park, Shaffi’s Vagabonds picked up a bonus point after beating HKCA Dragons by 74 runs.
The Dragon’s opted to field after winning the toss and they were rewarded with an early wicket. A number of Vagabonds batsmen made useful starts but none went on to post a big score. E Rawaid top scored with 38 while S Khan hit 34 and M Juniad got 32 as Vagabonds reached 211 in 46.2 overs.
Ady Lee, in his last game for the team before heading overseas, top scored with 48 in the Dragons’ reply. He received good support from his skipper Damien Yee who hit 36 but there was little else to show from the other batsmen as Dragons were dismissed for 137. For Vagabonds, M Sohail claimed 3/28 and M Junaid got 3/15.
At PKVR Park: Shaffi’s Vagabonds 211 from 46.2 overs beat HKCA Dragons 137 from 40 overs by 74 runs.
