Despite having a reserve day in place a T8 typhoon ensured that the points were split in the second of two matches between Hong Kong and Nepal.
The no result means Hong Kong go two points clear of fifth placed Kenya in the battle for a crucial top four position. One win from two games against PNG will be enough to guarantee Hong Kong a place in the ICC Cricket World Cup qualifiers.
Hong Kong head coach Simon Cook said;
"It's clearly a positive result to get three points out of a maximum of four but also frustrating because we had targeted the series to take four points, which given the results of the other games in round six would have allowed us to exert a lot of pressure on the teams above us."
"The team is looking upwards on the ladder. At the outset of this tournament our goal was to finish in the top two and that is still very possible with two wins against PNG in our last two games."
"It's always hard when you play un a league that lasts two and half years, there is always the variable of weather and other things that are of out of our control, it could political conflicts ike the case against Kenya when the location of the games was up in the air or rain like it was this time. The frustrating thing is that rain is depriving us of points going forwards in our home fixture."
"Having said that, when you look back at the games we have played so far, you can identify two or three where we had opportunities to win and we lost them so you can't look the weekend in isolation that we were unlucky because of the rain."
"Overall we were happy with the performance in the first game. We were 30 runs short on a tricky pitch but the really pleasing thing was the things we identified as weaknesses and worked hard on came to the fore. Lower order runs, showing more fight and resilience in adversity, scrapping to a score and when it came to the fielding our discipline with the ball and commitment in the field to save runs shone throughout."
