Cricket Hong Kong appoints dedicated Head of Women’s Cricket

02 July 2019

Following a comprehensive recruitment and interview process Cricket Hong Kong is delighted to announce that Chris Pickett has been appointed to the newly created position of Head of Women's Cricket. He will start his role on August 1st, 2019

This new role positions Chris as a dedicated champion for Women’s cricket in Hong Kong, responsible for leading the development of the Women and Girl's game from grassroots up to the Women's Representative Squads.

High Performance Manager, Mark Farmer expressed his delight with the appointment. “We are unbelievably excited to welcome Chris to this newly expanded and important position. He brings with him a wealth of experience in both performance coaching and game development, which is critical to the success of this role. It is the first time we have had someone solely focussed on the performance and development of women’s and girls cricket, which is a great opportunity to grow the game and is totally aligned to ICC strategy.”

Chris welcomed his new challenge with Cricket Hong Kong, “I feel incredibly honoured to be entrusted with the role of Head of Women’s Cricket. I am looking forward to working with our Women’s Representative Squads and also developing the women and girl’s game, ensuring Hong Kong develops a sustainable pathway for females of all ages and abilities to play and enjoy the game of cricket. In order to achieve this, I will be engaging on an ongoing basis with players, clubs, coaches and all stakeholders of women’s cricket in Hong Kong.”

An immediate focus for Chris will be preparing the Hong Kong Women for the biennial East Asia Cup; a quadrangular tournament involving China, Japan and Korea. “I’m looking forward to working with our talented Women’s Squad to produce a brand of cricket that sees them rapidly climb the ICC T20i rankings and improve results in both regional and global tournaments. Obviously it would be great to start this by winning the East Asia Cup in September and, given the exciting potential in the squad, this will be our goal.”

Chris has worked for Cricket Hong Kong since 2013 prior to which he worked at Sussex County Cricket Club in the United Kingdom. Across both organisations Chris has performed a variety of roles in both cricket development, high performance coaching, and analysis all of which will stand him in good stead in this role.
