With Typhoon Mangkhut looming, this weekend could potentially suffer from strong winds and intermittent showers. Here’s what is scheduled in the CHK Leagues:
The third HKCC U-11 Derby takes place this Saturday 9:30 AM at HKCC – the Warriors facing the Hawks in a pool 3 match. The Hawks will be looking to bounce back from their narrow loss to the Rebels last week, while the Warriors will want to start their season strong with a win in their first game.
The U-17 Elite division is in action – both the DLSW Lions and Lantau Lions looking forward to playing their first games after their opening clash was rained out. The Lantau Lions face the Lady Maclehose Centre U-17s at GDB on Saturday 9:30 AM. LMC are a non-profit organization that provides community services to ethnic minorities, and their team lit up the CHK Leagues last season with their talent and passion for the game. The DLSW Lions take part in a derby match of their own – against last season’s champions, the Cheetahs, over at GDB 9:30 AM on Sunday. The Premier Division is on show too – USRC facing KCC at GDB on Sunday 1:30 PM. USRC won the first ever game at GDB last weekend, and will want to maintain this perfect record, while KCC lost their opening fixture and will want to put on a better showing. A set of cracking games await us.
The U-13 League starts this weekend as well, with 4 fixtures set to take place. The Elite Division will play 15 over games, while the Premier Division will compete in T20s. On Saturday at PKVR Reservoir LMC are in action again. As last season’s Elite Division champion, they now play their first ever Premier Division game, facing last season’s runner-ups HKCC Scorpions at 12:50 PM. This is followed by DLSW Littles facing the newly-formed India Green at 3:40 PM, in an Elite Division game. Then on Sunday at KGV, there will be two Premier Division games taking place simultaneously - last season’s champions KCC Crusaders will face USRC, and the DLSW Cheetahs will face PACC. Opening weekend for the U-13s promises to have a lot of excitement, and we hope all the kids, parents and coaches have a fun day out.
The Women’s T20 Cup continues on Sunday at PKVR Reservoir. KCC Maidens face SCC Divas at 8:20 AM, and enter the game as favourites, but should be wary of complacency against a talented side looking for it’s first win. The HKCC Cavaliers then face CCC Fung Wong, and one of these teams will suffer their first loss of the season, both having won their first games in emphatic manner. The final fixture of the day will be the DLSW Wasps playing USRC – the Wasps first game was rained out, and they will be hoping to get on the field this Sunday, while USRC will be hoping to field a full XI this time around.
Division 1 of the Saturday League has a big weekend ahead of them, with 3 games scheduled – CCC Jing Sun plays DLSW Sarjan at GDB, while HKCC and KCC play host to a pair of derbies – the Gap Ramblers face the Nomads, and the Saracens face the Crusaders. All three games of Division 1 so far have been rained off, and so we are hoping to have some cricket this Saturday, so that this season can finally begin in earnest. In Division 2, Laguna Gully face SCC Lancers at PKVR Park – a clash of two teams looking for their first wins, and in the case of the Lancers, a way back up to Division 1.
On Sunday there are two Elite League games fixtured. At Mission Road, PACC Elite, following on from their loss to HKCC Scorpions, will face DLSW JKN. Both sides will be missing their best players, as Hong Kong takes on Pakistan out in Dubai later that same day, so this game is a great opportunity for the fringe players to step up and be noticed. And over at HKCC, the HKCC Wanderers and USRC/MCC Elite will both play their first game of the season. USRC/MCC dominated Division 2 last season, with 7 wins and 1 no result in 10 games, and will want to make a statement against the Wanderers who, with only 2 wins in 10 games, narrowly avoided relegation last season.
With bad weather around the corner, CHK will endeavor to keep everyone up to date on ground conditions. We encourage everyone to stay up to date with the latest weather reports, and to stay safe.
This weekend also features the final day of the East Asia Cup – Saturday at Mission Road – and Hong Kong’s first game at the Asia Cup – against Pakistan on Sunday, 7:30 PM Hong Kong Time. Do show your support by watching the games and engaging with us across our various Social Media platforms.
Hong Kong Ga Yau!
