Premier League 2-Day
This weekend will see the annual Hancock Shield being played between the Kowloon Cricket Club and Hong Kong Cricket Club over at HKCC. The annual 2-day fixture is one of only 3 played each calendar year, and is part of HK’s Premier League cricket – the highest level of cricket in HK.
This year’s fixture is set to take place with several key cricketers away on National and U-19 duty – the Men’s team will be in Pakistan for the Emerging Teams Asia Cup, while the U-19s will be making the first step to qualifying for the Under-19 World Cup in Thailand, in the Asia Division 2 qualifiers. Nevertheless, plenty of high-quality cricketers will still be in action. Last year saw KCC emerge victorious by 10 wickets –after losing the toss, they shot HKCC out for 127 inside 2 session, before piling on 302/8 declared. They then managed to bowl HKCC out yet again for 181, and knocked off the 10 runs needed to win just before close of play on Day 2. HKCC will be looking to avenge that loss on home turf, and an exciting two days of action awaits us.
Saturday
Only two Saturday League games are scheduled to take place this weekend, both in Division 2. At PKVR Park, HKU CC will look to carry their recent good form into an important mid-table match against the DLSW Spartans. 5th placed HKU are coming off 3 wins in a row, while 6th placed Spartans have won 2 in a row – including hammering 493 against Pioneers at GDB. However, the Spartans will be missing the service of some of their more talented youngsters, who will be on tour with the U-19 side, so their bench strength will be tested.
While 5th and 6th battle it out at PKVR, 3rd and 4th will be in action at GDB, as the SCC Lancers play Taipans-PACC. Both sides have played 6 games so far, and the unbeaten Lancers sit 2 points ahead on the table. They are currently eying another Top 2 finish and a return to Division 1, and a victory here will see them overtake Kai Tak CC to 2nd place in the table. Taipans, in the meanwhile, will want to close the gap between the two sides – having only lost 1 game so far, their chances of promotion are still alive
Another pair of Women’s games at PKVR Reservoir this weekend. The SCC Divas will look to bounce back from a poor performance last weekend against the 4th placed HKCC Cavaliers, who themselves will look to get their 35-over season back on track. They will not be the only HKCC side seeking a win this day, as the Willow Wielders play the KCC Maidens at 1 PM. KCC got a big victory over CCC Fung Wong last season, and will be confident going in against the defending champions, who have only won one out of their four games so far.
Under-17
Three games in the Under 17s this weekend, starting with a Premier Division 35-over fixture at GDB on Saturday morning. USRC and PACC have both had rough starts to their season so far, and are coming off losses last weekend. They will be looking for their first wins, expect a fiercely competed game. Then on Sunday there are two Elite Division games at GDB – Lantau Lions play DLSW Cheetahs at 8 AM, after which the DLSW Lions play LMC at 1 PM. Both Lantau and the Cheetahs have yet to lose a game this season, while LMC and the Lions are yet to win a game. Expect a lot of firsts this weekend.
Under-13
A busy weekend in the U13s, with one game on Saturday and four on Sunday at KGV. On Saturday the USRC boys will look to continue their fine form against 5th placed DLSW Cheetahs in the Premier Division. Currently sitting third, a win here will keep the pressure on PACC, who will be in action on Sunday and confident of a victory against bottom-placed LMC. Also on Sunday, the Cheetahs play their second game in a row against the HKCC Scorpions. The two sides are separated by just one point, so there is plenty to play for in what should be an exciting game.
Then on Sunday afternoon at KGV there will be a pair of Elite division games. DLSW Littles play Lantau Lions in bottom-ranked match-up, with the Lantau youngsters hungry for their first win, after which 2nd placed DLSW Tigers play 3rd placed KCC Buccaneers in what should be an close fought game.
Under-11
It’s the final weekend of the Under-11 League, but there will be just three games taking place after a pair of forfeits earlier in the week. In Pool 1, the unbeaten HKCC Sharks will look to end their season on a strong note against India Club Blue. They are guaranteed to finish the League in first place regardless of the result of this game, but will look to put in a strong performance nevertheless. After this we have a DLSW Derby game – 3rd placed Tigers taking on 6th placed Cheetahs.
After this we have an exciting match up between 2nd placed India Club Orange and 3rd placed HKCC Pumas in Pool 2. The winner of this game is guaranteed to finish the League in 1st place in Pool 2, so this will be playing out as a virtual final.
