Today, Cricket Hong Kong Chairman, Dr John Cribbin announced continuing sponsorship from Craigengower Cricket Club focussed on the development of Chinese cricket.
"I am very excited that Craigengower are maintaining their commitment to furthering local cricket aimed at the Chinese community," Cribbin said. "This is the 4th tranche of $150,000 sponsorship from the Happy Valley-based Club over the last 5 years".
"This contribution is very substantial and helps us fund local coaching and does much to help promote the game in the community," he added. "Helping China Discover Cricket has been a hallmark of Craigengower's visionary approach for some time and we are very proud to be a part of this process," Cribbin continued.
Speaking about the decision, Craigengower President, Mr Frederick Keung said, "Our continuing sponsorship reflects our faith in CHK’s mission and the importance we place on helping to develop cricket both in Hong Kong and on the Mainland."
"Joining hands with the dedicated coaches and professional approach of Cricket Hong Kong has produced proven results in a short period of time, with Chinese cricketers excelling at a variety of levels, including the National men’s and women’s squads and with the creation of the “elite” Hong Kong Dragons," Keung added.
"The recent success of the CHK Dragon’s team who finished as runners up to Japan at the 2018 East Asia Cup, was very exciting for us all," Keung said. The opportunity to offer a tournament which includes the best cricketers from Hong Kong, China, Japan and Korea can only be good for the game within this region”.
“With the help of CHK we will continue to sponsor our Chinese men’s and women's teams, with a short term goal of sponsoring our first junior side in CHK competitions," Keung added. "In 1894, Craigengower was founded “to teach schoolboys to play cricket” and we will continue to keep “the spirit of cricket” alive in Happy Valley, as we continue our cricketing traditions. 2019 will be our 125th anniversary and this is a perfect way to help celebrate,” he concluded.
Mark Wright, Director of Cricket at Cricket HK, also welcomed the decision saying "Craigengower continues to forge the way in promoting the game within the Chinese community and the decision to continue sponsorship reinforces CHK aims for local development."
