Hong Kong and CA strengthen ties following Level 3 Coaching Course in HK

31 October 2016

Cricket Australia’s Darren Holder says CA would “absolutely” partner with Cricket Hong Kong again after the successful completion of their Level 3 coaching course in the territory.

The course allowed Hong Kong’s own coaches to learn and present alongside CA’s top High Performance staff as well as Test legends Mike Hussey and Chris Rogers, who were participants.

After a week where the weather tried its best to intervene, the High Performance departments of Cricket Hong Kong and Cricket Australia were still all smiles.

“Despite two unseasonal typhoons, the logistics, hospitality, support & expertise provided by CHK to support the delivery of the program was first class even with the challenges,” Holder said.

“The adjustments to the schedule were never a problem & we achieved everything & more than expected.”

It’s the latest in a string of projects undertaken between CA and CHK, with Hong Kong also set to tour New South Wales to play Sydney Thunder and Sydney Sixes in December

“Perhaps we could describe it (the relationship) as a bit like an uncle/nephew - one step removed with paternal feelings of support & experience, yet the freedom to pursue our own goals & aspirations,” Holder said.

“Certainly a deep connection to see the success of one another.”

“It would be tremendous if we could partner again in the future to provide access to a diverse group of coaches from countries throughout Eastern Asia, the pacific islands & Australia.”

From Hong Kong’s point of view, Charlie Burke said the CHK staff benefited greatly from the program.

"Cricket Australia's high performance coach education program is one of the leading courses and to be able to host it in Hong Kong was a huge honour and just shows the strength of our ongoing relationship with Cricket Australia," Burke said.

"It's important we continue to strengthen our coach education pathway and to also provide ongoing opportunity for the coaches to grow and develop."

"This couldn't be possible without the support of Kowloon CC, Regal Oriental Hotel and of course Cricket Australia."
