Hong Kong have announced the final 14-man squad for the ICC-Asia Under 19s tournament to be held in Kuala Lumpur in September.

The tournament will serve as a qualifier for the Under 19s Asia Cup to be held in Sri Lanka in December.

Jhatha Subraymanyan has been named captain while Kabir Sodhi will serve as vice-captain.

Selector and Director of Cricket Charlie Burke said;

“The U19s have been a real focus in our performance program as we strive to reach our goal of making it to a ICC U19 World Cup. The squad that has been selected is a great mix of experienced youngsters and some up and coming stars of Hong Kong Cricket, the players that have moved from u16s to u19s have really impressed over the last two years and have consistently been performing in domestic senior cricket”

“Raag Kapur, Jhatha Subraymanyan and Kabir Sodhi have really impressed the selectors and coaching staff in the last 12 months and will no doubt press for higher honors with a good performance in Kuala Lumpur. Waqas Khan has been one of the standouts in the national team after a few lean tours and limited opportunities, I expect him to really step up and lead from the front with both bat and ball”

“The upcoming tournament is not only a chance to qualify for events such as the Asia Cup, it’s also a chance for the young guys to impress and push for national selection. The squad has got an opportunity to play a few matches against the UAE U19s in Dubai which has come about due to the strong relationship Hong Kong Cricket and Emirates Cricket Board have, I don’t see this preparation tour as a once off, I see it as hopefully an annual fixture”
