The Hong Kong U19s have Qualified for Asia Division One of the ICC U19 Cricket World Cup Qualifiers! This is the final pathway tournament towards the 2024 U19 World Cup, with the winner taking one spot in the main event!
Hong Kong have reached here by finishing in the top 2 of the Asia Division Two tournament late last year. They beat Thailand, Qatar and Oman on their way to the finals, where they fell short to Singapore U19s.
The squad for this tournament has been announced, with Kowloon Cricket Club’s Ahan Trivedi skippering the side. They will play a single stage round-robin against Kuwait, UAE, Nepal, Singapore and Malaysia, with the top of the table team proceeding to the U19 ODI World Cup in 2024, tentatively scheduled for Sri Lanka.
Jawaid Iqbal one of the coaches of the U19 Squad, had this to say. “The boys have worked very hard in preparation for this tournament, and are excited at the opportunity to represent Hong Kong at a World Cup. We have selected a strong squad that covers all bases, and have recognised outstanding performers in our domestic cricket leagues. We hope to repeat the kind of performances we put up in Oman a few months ago”
The HK U19s will begin their campaign with a series of warmup matches in Oman, before making their way to Ajman in UAE for the Qualifiers.
