Hong Kong name U19 Squad for Asia Cup Qualifiers

18 August 2017

Hong Kong have selected a 14-man squad for the U19’s Asia Cup qualifier in Malaysia, with the tour acting as new Pathway Coach Mark Farmer's first major assignment.

Farmer, who is originally from New Zealand but spent time coaching in England with Oxford University has spent the off-season assessing players coming through the pathways system.

"I have been very impressed by both the level and diversity of skills these players possess," Farmer said.

"What is most exciting is that these players still have a long way to go before they realise their full skill potential. It’s very promising for the future of cricket in Hong Kong."

"Without a doubt the goal is to put ourselves in a position to win the tournament. In doing so we will also qualify for the Asia Cup in November. That would give the boys a great opportunity to compete against the Under 19 squads from the Test playing nations in the region."

Following the tournaments, the Under 19 programme will scale back and players will join their club sides as the local season gets underway.

As he did in last year's U19 World Cup qalifiers, spinning all-rounder Jhathavedh Subramanyan will lead the side.

"Our captain is a particularly impressive all-round cricketer who shows maturity beyond his years as a tactician, leader and player."

"Hassan Khan, is a young pace bowler who is new to the squad this year. He has already shown an unrivalled work ethic and commitment to developing his game, this combined with his natural skill will make him one to watch in the future."
