Hong Kong go into their first match of the ICC T20 World Cup Qualifiers with confidence after beating Namibia and Bermuda in their two tournament warm-up fixtures.
Following those results the team’s attention now turns to their opening fixture of the tournament against Ireland tonight, Friday 18th October, in Abu Dhabi. From there they play a further five Group B matches against the UAE, Oman, Canada, Jersey and Nigeria. Hong Kong will be aiming to finish in the top four of their group to progress through to the knock-out stages.
The tournament sees fourteen teams compete across two pools, vying for the six qualifying spots for the ICC T20 Cricket World Cup to be played in Australia in October 2020.
Earlier in the week Head Coach Trent Johnston spoke to ICC Media and had this to say “I think we’re pretty well prepared. If we turn up and play our best cricket, put all three disciplines together on a particular day, we can beat any team in our group.”
“Obviously Top 4 is where we want to finish, get to the knock-out stages, and I certainly think we have the group of players to achieve that.”
All of Hong Kong’s games will be played in Abu Dhabi with live scores available on Cricinfo and the ICC’s website. You can also follow CHK’s social media channels for regular news and updates, and check our Event page for all the coverage surrounding this event.
