India-A Continue to Top Group A Following Day 4 Wash Out

By Jay Dansinghani

In spite of the continued dedication of Cricket Hong Kong, China’s ground staff and volunteers, episodic late morning and afternoon showers on the back of an overnight amber rainstorm led to the abandonment of both games on day four of the ACC Women’s Emerging Teams Asia Cup.

Hong Kong shared a point with Pakistan-A before India-A shared a point with Nepal in the afternoon fixture.

Qualification Scenarios

This means that India-A have retained their top spot in Group-A. Their big win over Hong Kong, which gave them a large Net Run Rate boost, should be enough for them to progress to the semi-finals regardless of the outcome of their game against Pakistan-A on Saturday.

If Pakistan-A lose to India-A and Nepal defeat Hong Kong by a large enough margin, the Rubina Chhetry-led unit may edge past their full member counterparts to a coveted semi-final berth.

Hong Kong, China are still in with a mathematical chance of semi-final qualification. They will need to win by a substantial margin against Nepal to make up for a net run rate of negative 5.425, while hoping that India-A defeat Pakistan-A.
