Kowloon Cricket Club win Premier League title

05 February 2017

Kowloon Cricket Club have returned to the summit of cricket in Hong Kong, sealing the Premier League title with a convincing win over Pakistan Association CC.

Such has their dominance been this season that KCC were able to wrap the title up with a game still left to play. The 176-run win secured their fifth bonus point in 7 matches, with their only blemish a loss to Hong Kong Cricket Club.

The title provided their coach Ryan Campbell with a fitting send-off before he takes up a role as head coach with The Netherlands in April. Unfortunately for Campbell, it will likely be the final match in his career after the evergreen batsman tore his hamstring making 48.

“I’m exceptionally proud of this group after we lost in the final last year, we got together and decided we weren’t going to let that happen again,” Campbell said.

“We are proud to have 9 national squad players in our group and we have always tried to push our guys to become national players.”

“We’ve worked very hard to get where we are and to celebrate with them before I go is very special and whoever comes in next will have a great group to work with. Aside from me the oldest player is 30, so the club is well placed to perform for a number of years to come.”

Batting first, KCC posted 271-8 with Ninad Shah top scoring with 68 from 70 balls. Waqas Barkat (58) and Campbell (48) also made contributions.

In reply KCC’s bowling once against proved too strong for the opposition as they blasted out PACC for 95. Najeeb Amar took 3-25.
