Men’s East Asia Cup 2024 will be played in Hong Kong as a Lunar New Year Spectacular

Cricket Hong Kong, China is delighted to announce the hosting of the Men’s East Asia Cup 2024 to be played at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground from 14th to 17th February 2024.

The Men’s East Asia Cup will return to Hong Kong, China since 2018, this year, Men’s National Teams of China and Japan will play for title of East Asian Champions by competing for matches at Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground. Team will play a double round robin T20I tournament during the week of Chinese New Year. The top two finishers will proceed to the Final in the morning of 17th February 2024, following an exhibition game in the afternoon.

Burji Shroff, Chairperson of Cricket Hong Kong, China, said “We would like to welcome China Cricket Team and Japan Cricket Team to visit Hong Kong once again. The East Asia Cup is not merely a cricket tournament but also an opportunity for East Asian regional teams to compete and help grow the following of cricket in the region.” said Burji Shroff. “The establishment of the East Asia Cup relies on the strong foundation between the associations, and we are so excited to see the tournament growing year by year.“

The Men’s East Asia Cup 2024 will be the first time that all matches will be played with T20I status. Hong Kong, China has faced Japan in a T20I match during the 19th Asian Games Hangzhou in 2023, while the upcoming East Asia Cup will be the first time for Hong Kong, China playing China in a T20I match.

“We are looking forward to come down to Tin Kwong Road Recreation Ground to demonstrate our skills in front of the home fans!” said Shan Ming, Team Manager of Chinese Cricket Team. “The East Asia Cup will be a great opportunity for the team to take forward of what we have learnt from the ACC Men's Challenger Cup.”

Alan Curr, Head of Cricket Operations of Japan Cricket Association said, “The East Asia Cup has played a key role in not only developing our national men's and women's teams, but also building friendships and ties between the countries involved. We are delighted to have the men's event back up and running and we know Hong Kong will be fantastic hosts as always.”
